Adidas have unveiled the third kit that Arsenal will use in the 22/23 season – giving the Gunners a brand-new colour to wear in the process.

Mikel Arteta’s side carries higher expectations into this season than the last term. As a result of a busy summer transfer window, Arsenal are certainly aiming for a top four spot and Champions League football in 22/23.

The North London team have signed Man City pair Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko, Fabio Vieira from Porto, goalkeeper Matt Turner and Brazilian youngster Marquinhos this summer. These welcome additions to the squad come at a cost; the Gunners are currently the Premier League’s highest spenders in this transfer window.

But if it translates into on-pitch success, that will not matter. And Arsenal will at least look the part on their travels in their new third kit for 22/23, as Adidas have delivered another beauty.

The German manufacturer has gone in a different direction with the base colour for the alternate strip this season. In the previous three seasons as the Gunners’ kit supplier, Adidas utilised navy in the third shirt.

For 19/20, this came with yellow trim, whereas in 20/21, the kit had pink trim. In contrast, last season’s third shirt was navy with light blue zig-zag stripes.

Fast forward to 2022, and pink is the base colour for Arsenal’s third jersey. Adidas has not been afraid to use this stand-out colour in the past. For instance, Manchester United had a light pink away kit in the 18/19 season, and Juventus had a very cool pink number in 15/16.

Now, it is Arsenal’s turn to don a pink shirt.

This stunning shirt comes in a pale pink colour, with ‘ermine pattern’ shapes dotted all over the kit in a marginally darker shade. Ermine is a unique pattern that first featured on an Arsenal shirt all the way back in the 1940s. A navy-blue collar with electric blue trim stands out against the pale base colour, as do the Adidas shoulder stripes in navy.

Interestingly, the return of the ermine pattern is a reference to the club motto, “victory through harmony”. A video series showing the new kit alongside supporters and how the motto relates to their lives intertwines the club and its standing in the community.

For example, one short film highlights the work of Tayshan Hayden-Smith. He created the “Grenfell Garden of Peace”, an initiative that boosted the community around Grenfell Tower. A number of these community leaders are also featured in the official kit launch.

Unlike the away shirt, which uses the Cannon badge, Arsenal’s third kit uses the typical shield-design club crest. This comes in the navy and pink colour of the shirt in order to compliment the colourway. Similarly, the Fly Emirates, sleeve sponsor, and Adidas logo are all in the dark blue shade for clear viewing.

Moving to the shorts now, where navy takes over as the base colour. In contrast to the shirt, pink becomes the trim colour, with a band around the base of the shorts. However, the Adidas stripes, logo, and club badge are all in electric blue.

This bright blue also shows up on the Adidas stripes of the socks once more. But, unlike the shorts, pink returns as the main colour, and navy appears in a colour block at the top of the sock.

The likes of Bukayo Saka, Ben White, Martin Odegaard, Takehiro Tomiyasu, and Kieran Tierney all donned the shirt for the release photoshoot. And they will not have to wait long to put on the Adidas strip again, either; Arsenal will wear their 22/23 third kit in their opening league match vs Crystal Palace.
