With new football kit releases becoming more and more frequent, it’s hard to keep on top of which are the best of the lot.
The start of the 2022/23 season means yet more strips have been unveiled, with just about every club opting for three new kits at the beginning of each campaign these days.
Meanwhile, over in Italy, Napoli continue to completely rip up the rulebook and release at least 100 different iterations of their kits over the course of a season. Okay, maybe not 100 exactly, but you get the idea.
Football shirt culture is absolutely massive. And those that are into their kits, absolutely adore them.
Still, though, even more general football fans will always hold an interest in new strips. Nobody wants their team to be playing in an absolute howler of a shirt, after all.
The beauty of the hectic nature of kit releases these days is that everyone’s styles and preference are catered for. And with the new season upon us, another big influx of releases has occurred, meaning there’s plenty of top shirts flying under the radar.
With that in mind, the folks at FourFourTwo have sieved through the never-ending world of football shirts, and picked out the top 25 kits to have been released so far in 2022.
There are some absolute belters in this list, so be sure to read on and see what they came up with.
Influenced by the 1990s, but still looks sleek and modern. adidas have played a blinder with the new Celtic change strip.
Green and black is a risky combination, especially with green being so prominent on the home shirt, but they’ve pulled it off.
Blackout shirts aren’t for everyone and the increasing popularity in manufacturers reeling them out is making them lose their sparkle somewhat, but this effort from Umbro is sublime.
An all black design is broken up by different tones, and retains a striped effect through the body of the shirt. Classy.

Not everyone’s cup of tea, but certainly an unforgettable effort.
Spurs’ third shirt is another loud one, but if they’re pulling off big wins under Antonio Conte while wearing it and gunning for trophies, then it’s sure to go down as a favourite.
Minus points for not continuing the stripes around the back, Puma. Shame on you.
We can’t fault the rest of the shirt, though, as it’s stunning. The Serie A champions have been decked out with a beauty. Those Italian flag details on the sleeve cuffs are always a welcome addition.
A solid effort from Mizuno, who fly under the radar these days in a world dominated by Nike, adidas and Puma.
Lazio have been decked out in a classy effort for their away visits, with a subtle flash of colour across the chest bringing the shirt to life. Nice.
City in red and black stripes? Yes please. Winner winner, chicken dinner.
Is it good enough to be ahead of City’s striking effort? Questionable.
However, you can’t knock Umbro for their work with Brentford, breaking the norms by not giving them new kits every season. This time it was the away shirt in for a refresh, and the new light blue effort is smart.
A controversial one, this. Some love it, some loathe it. We think it deserves to be much higher up this list.
Barcelona have bounced back from last season’s monstrosity of a home shirt with a much more classy design. The navy blue is a welcome addition and gives the shirt a retro feel, while the unique stripe design is refreshing.
Seriously, how cool is this?
Collared shirts don’t always land. But when they do, they’re often flawless. Stuttgart’s is exactly that, with Jako producing a rework of their 1997 kit. Perfect for every occasion.
Again, another marmite entry. And one we can’t help feeling like it doesn’t belong in this list.
Bournemouth’s palm tree-inspired change strip has actually landed well with plenty of others on line, so what do we know? Each to their own.

Has there ever been a bad black and gold football shirt? No. The answer is no.
Simple, yet elegant. New Balance, take a bow.
Navy blue, subtle collar, no messing. It’s not to everyone’s taste, but Blackburn’s new away shirt by Macron certainly has a classic feel to it.
Here’s hoping it’s a shirt that helps fire them towards Premier League promotion.
adidas have been caught out for using templates across their biggest clubs this season, which is never ideal.
But, when those templates allow for kits such as Real‘s home shirt to be designed, we can excuse it. This one ticks all the boxes. Football heritage at its peak. Has a serious throwback feel, this one. Brilliant.
Plain and simple for the Cottagers. And we love it.
No messing around from the brand with the three stripes, here. Hits of red and black in an otherwise simplistic design. Fulham fans will love it even more if it’s a kit that they don while avoiding relegation from the Premier League.
We’re all Venezia fans now.
Despite being relegated back to Serie B for this season, the Venice-based outfit continue to win in the world of football kits, with a stunning, golden third kit, complete with black accents. Unreal.
Some people love the fact that Forest are still without a main shirt sponsor despite the season being underway.
Sponsor-less shirts can sometimes look a little bit strange, admittedly, but the sublime pattern design means their away shirt works perfectly without one.

A risky choice of collar has been used, but it’s paid off.
Combine that with a sublime yet subtle hoop design and a solid blue tone, and you’re onto a winner. Well done, Betis.
You can just see Tammy Abraham and Paulo Dybala absolutely ripping up Serie A Roma’s new home shirt, can’t you?
Fuelled by a primed and ready, second season Jose Mourinho on the touchline, it ticks all the boxes. Simple, effective, no messing. Straight to business.

Could Arsenal’s away kit be number one? Absolutely. Should it be? Quite possibly.
Absolutely flawless from adidas, who have opted for a black and gold effort. The use of the older cannon badge ties it all together. The Gunners are back.
Another solid effort from Hummel, who have decked out Bristol City with a very classy effort. The off-centre vertical stripe is a risk, but one that has paid off. Cracking colour combination, too.
Not one for the purists, but we like it.
Yet another entry from Hummel, the Saints have been tipped to struggle in the Premier League this season, but at least they’re going to do it in style. Bespoke, modern and refreshing, with a unique, all-over pattern deployed.
Relegation to the Championship seems to have forced an identity crisis at Burnley.
That identity crisis has suddenly got them playing free-flowing, progressive football and a very modern looking home shirt. Admittedly, we think this ranking is a little generous, but it’s by no means a bad shirt.
They do it every year. Absolutely beautiful. Flawless.

Palace are taking to the pitch in sublime shirts all around this year, but the away strip is definitely the pick of the bunch.
You just can’t beat that colour combination, and the new design down the front is a welcome change. It’s honestly one of the greatest shirts the Eagles have had in years.

Of all the kits mentioned, we really didn’t anticipate Norwich taking the cake. A hugely controversial shout.
Look, it’s a stunning kit, of course. The tweaked badge, the pinstripes and the black accents are a huge improvement on previous seasons. But top spot? That feels a touch too generous. But that is the beauty of the world of football kits and their endlessly different designs, so fair play.
