Atletico Madrid star rejected Barcelona move in swap deal involving Griezmann on deadline day
Amid a legal standoff between Atletico Madrid and FC Barcelona regarding Antoine Griezmann over the €40 million, reports lately have suggested that the two clubs could soon seek a renewed agreement in the coming days.
While Atletico are subjected to pay €40 million at the end of the season, providing Griezmann completes the 50% criteria, many believe that they could convince Barça to lower the price tag to €25 million.
However, a report from Diario SPORT suggests that Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are yet to reach an agreement with Griezmann over any lowered terms.
Although the two clubs are actively seeking an agreement, negotiations could prove to be difficult as the discrepancies between the two clubs remain high. The whole operation could take much longer than expected, and the status quo has not changed much, as of now.
Griezmann, for his part, remains calm about the situation. He remains committed to continuing at Atletico Madrid, even though the forward has not been in more than 30 minutes of action in any of the matches so far this season. It was once again evident in Atleti’s recent Champions League encounter against Bayer Leverkusen.
The former Real Sociedad starlet is aware of the fact that he has registered his place in the French national team for the upcoming FIFA World Cup. As such, he is willing to wait and allow Barcelona and Atletico Madrid to resolve their differences.
Atleti president Enrique Cerezo had recently spoken about the issue, suggesting that the club do not plan to reach any agreement with Barcelona just yet. However, only time will tell whether or not their policy changes in the coming weeks, especially if Barça are willing to lower the price tag for Griezmann come the end of the season.

With Jan Oblak returning from his minor knee injury in a 2-1 win against Porto, the experienced goalkeeper has been out of action in the previous two games against Celta Vigo and Bayer Leverkusen.
Ivo Grbic has deputised in his absence and may set to do so in Atletico Madrid’s upcoming contest against Real Madrid on Sunday night.
As per the latest revelation reported by El Chiringuito, there remain doubts over whether Oblak will be available to start in the Madrid Derby.
It has been further claimed that the Slovenian international was seen training alone with a limp on Friday, nursing a thigh injury.
Despite the once-revered shotstopper’s form falling off a cliff last season, he remains a key member of the side. While he missed the last two games, it was expected that he could be forced back in time to take on Real Madrid.
In a game of the magnitude of a derby against none other than Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Jan Oblak’s experience, calmness and big-game heroics would have been crucial in leading Atleti to an unfancied result.
Especially considering how the seasoned defensive pair of Jose Maria Gimenez and Stefan Savic remain out of contention for the contest due to their injury woes.
All eyes will be on Grbic to see how he copes against Real Madrid’s frightening attack, despite the possible absence of the one and only Karim Benzema.
It is key to emphasise that as things stand, Oblak’s unavailability has not been confirmed by either Diego Simeone or the club itself.
However, the hope remains that even if the two-time La Liga winner cannot make the cut against Los Blancos, his thigh injury does not keep him out of action for long, as his presence or lack thereof could make-or-break Atletico Madrid’s season instantly.
