Questions online and on message boards recently came up about USC football jersey sales and whether they would be happening this year. Thankfully, LA Times USC writer Antonio Morales answered them on Twitter on Tuesday:

#USC is also participating in the Fanatics custom jersey program, so fans will be able to get a Williams No. 13 or Addison No. 3 jersey (or whoever else they choose) through there and players will receive revenue through revenue share agreement with Fanatics.

So, yes, USC will continue to sell jerseys. As Morales pointed out, No. 1 jerseys, No. 22 jerseys, No. 55 jerseys, and No. 80 jerseys will be sold, but that's not it. USC will be participating with Fanatics in an opportunity to allow fans to get custom jerseys of specific players they want through Fanatics (Morales recommended this article to read more about that program).

Those players will then therefore get at least some of the money for the sales themselves. That's how it should be. This is a perfect use of the NIL era by USC. And both the players and fans can of course benefit off of it. It's important that USC keeps selling as many jerseys as they were before just as a way to get as much Cardinal in the stadium.

If it's true that Big Ten teams' fans will be looking to travel very well for away games against the USC football program, the bookstore and team in general needs to be doing as much as they can to encourage fans to show up and be enthusiastic about this squad.

Continuing to sell jerseys won't fix that potential problem, but it won't make it worse, which would potentially be the case if SC decided to stop selling jerseys.

NIL will have many impacts on college football, but it not only doesn't hurt the football program and fan experience, but actually enhances it with the custom jersey program that gets the players the NIL money they deserve for their own jersey sales. Jersey sales are not only still here, but in an even better spot than they were before.
