San Antonio Missions will auction game-worn jerseys to support the Uvalde community on June 16.
To support the Uvalde community after the recent mass shooting at Robb Elemetary, the San Antonio Missions are raising money by auctioning off game worn jerseys next Thursday, June 16.
The Missions will hit the diamond wearing Uvalde High School Coyotes uniforms, which will be auctioned off during and following the game to raise money for the Robb School Memorial Fund, according to a press release.
"Uvalde has special meaning for the Missions. Wolff Stadium has hosted numerous group outings and even Coyote Baseball playoff games," says Missions President Burl Yarbrough in the release. "Anything we as an organization can do in this awful situation to help provide for the Uvalde community, we are honored to do so."
The Missions collaborated with Wilson Sporting Goods and Uvalde CISD for the event. Wilson Sporting Goods expedited the usually two-month process of designing and creating jerseys into a two-week project, the release reads.
Facing off against the Missions on June 16 are the Amarillo Sod Poodles, with the jersey auction closing 15 minutes after the final out.
"On behalf of the entire Uvalde CISD, we express our gratefulness for the support of the San Antonio Missions," says Uvalde CISD Superintendent Hal Harrell in the release. "We are heartbroken at the innocent lives lost. The Uvalde CISD administration, staff, and families will forever be thankful for the generous support of the community and nation."
