York City's new 'Chocolate and Cream' centenary third kit described as 'unbelievable' - Fan Banter

York City’s new ‘Chocolate and Cream’ centenary third kit has been described as ‘unbelievable’ and one of the most unique strips out there.

The Minstermen say the alternate jersey is inspired by the city’s chocolate making heritage and is based on a design worn by the club in the 1930’s.

The shirt is made up of alternate chocolate and cream coloured stripes with the collar coloured cream whilst the sleeves are chocolate.

A cream coloured Puma logo is placed on the right breast whilst a monochrome new centenary York City FC badge is placed on the left breast.

We have today unveiled our new ‘Chocolate and Cream’ alternate strip as part of the club’s Centenary range.

The striped design, inspired by the city’s chocolate-making heritage, and as worn by the club in the 1930s will feature during the 2022/23 season.

The shirt will be worn with white shorts and brown socks to complete the full look.

The new shirt follows on from the record-breaking home shirt which sold out in just 6 days in May and is available to order in July.

York City, who won promotion to the National League, also recently revealed their new Centenary badge and bespoke Puma kit for 2022/23, with sales doing superbly.

The York Minster-inspired home shirt was unveiled at the iconic cathedral this afternoon on the club’s 100th Birthday.

The strip reverts back to the traditional colours of maroon, with gold Centenary accents to create a truly God-like feel and design.

The limited-edition kit is available for pre-order now exclusively from the online store, with delivery available worldwide.

In addition to the kit, the Minstermen have a one-off Centenary club crest with a modern take on the much-loved late 1900s badge which includes the Bootham Bar with two lions either side.

Fans were heavily involved in the design process which started last year, with club surveys and fan focus groups established to gauge direction on the new identity.

Christopher Payne, an award-winning British designer and passionate football fan, was behind much of the process when it came to the rebranding of the club’s logo.

He said: “When a famous football club like York City reaches out to you, excitement is a normal reaction. But this was different. They were asking me to be part of an important landmark in the club’s history. This is the story of how I joined forces with York City Football Club to create their centenary crest.

“I presented the crest to the club’s board of directors, talking them through the various aspect of the design, and how it related back to the history of the football club, and what we heard from the fans in our listening sessions. The board listened intently, before confirming that they instantly loved it. They understood the reasoning behind my choices and appreciated the depth of research and fan engagement that Dan [Simmonite] and I had undertaken.

“The board gave us the green light, and approved the design. This crest would officially mark the centenary of York City Football Club.

“Shortly after they ask if I would be interested in designing the kits for the club’s historic season. Without hesitation, I said yes, and a new design adventure would begin with York City F.C.

“I take great pride in all that we have achieved for York City Football Club. I’m so proud of the design and the process of its creation. It was a joy to meet so many passionate and honest York City supporters along the way. I’m confident they’ll wear this special crest with pride as, collectively, we celebrate one hundred years of York City Football Club. Here’s to one hundred more!”
