FC Juárez Bravos will sport a limited edition jersey in honor of the late legendary Mexican singer-songwriter Juan Gabriel, who was never shy about representing his border hometown.

The black jersey with gold accents was inspired by a black-and-gold suit worn by Juan Gabriel in his famous 1990 concert in the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, FC Juárez said.

"'Los Bravos' honor the most important artist in the history of the city, the 'Divo de Juárez,' " FC Juárez announced. "The team led by Ricardo Ferretti will wear a black and gold uniform to celebrate the career of one of the most important artists and singers in Mexican culture."

The commemorative "Juanga" uniform will be worn when the Bravos face perennial Mexican soccer power the Chivas of Guadalajara on Feb. 5 at home in Estadio Olímpico Benito Juárez.

The jersey features Juan Gabriel's signature on the front, a small image on the back and includes the word "Querida," after one of his most popular songs. The jerseys were unveiled Tuesday.

The jersey is for sale on the team's merchandise website, bravotienda.com. Prices are in pesos.

Juan Gabriel was one of Juárez's most beloved adopted sons and the city's major-league level soccer club has often used promotional phrases, such as "Juárez es el Number One," inspired by his songs.

Juan Gabriel was proud to be from la frontera, a welcoming and diverse border city. "Arriba Juárez," he would often shout in concerts.

Juan Gabriel died Aug. 28, 2016, at his home in Santa Monica, California, the same day he was to perform at a sold-out Don Haskins Center in El Paso. He was 66.
