Progress pleases Hasenhuttl but 'reverse gear' important for Chelsea | Daily Echo

RALPH Hasenhuttl admits the “reverse gear” is going to be “even more important” when it comes to facing Chelsea at St Mary’s this week.

Saints are looking to post points on the Premier League table again after Saturday’s defeat to Manchester United ended a three-match mini-unbeaten spell in all competitions.

Hasenhuttl’s side had come from behind in league games versus Leeds United and Leicester City to earn a win and a draw, but now face the second of a home double-header against the top six.

After Bruno Fernandes’ first-time finish to seal victory for Erik ten Hag’s side, Saints have four points from their opening four games.

Meanwhile, Chelsea have picked up two wins in back-to-back games to climb to sixth in the division. Assessing his tactical setup for the Blues’ visit, Hasenhuttl admitted he will stick with the same.

“I think it seems we are more comfortable with a four, and we have more players up front which helps us initially to create chances,” he said.

“It is more helpful when you have bodies up front, this can’t find you quality in some moments but it is one body more and we are not struggling to create chances at the moment.

“We are also not struggling to defend which is good to see, the reverse gear is important and even more important against the top teams.”

He added: “We had this one moment against United and they punish you, which happens in the Premier League. We are on a good way.”

Saints versus Chelsea kicks off on Tuesday, August 30 at 7:45PM and is televised live on BT Sport. Saints then travel to Wolves later this weekend.

Wesley Fofana, the 21-year-old French defender who missed Leicester City’s match with Saints, is not expected to complete his Stamford Bridge move in time to face Saints.
